History

Stone King Solicitors has a continuous working history in the City of Bath for more than 200 years. The story of the Firm is the story of four families, the Clarkes, the Kings, the Stones and the Wardles, linked in an unbroken line of partnership.

In 1785 Robert Clarke set up in business as an Attorney at Law, in the Cross Baths. In 1832 the first member of the King family joined the Partnership. Our senior partner, Michael King, is the fifth generation of his family in the firm.

It was also in 1832 that the business moved into much more august offices at 13 Queen Square, not long beforehand the home of Jane Austen. More than a hundred and fifty years later, we are still here, having expanded in 1895 into Number 12 as well.

The firm has always been very active in the life of Bath and has supplied several Town Clerks and magistrates in the City.

The firm established a London presence in the 1990s and in June 2000 saw the opening of a permanently staffed London office.

The firm has a thriving local private and commercial practice in Bath whilst having built a national reputation in acting for schools, charities and other not-for-profit institutions.
