Richard acts for many maintained and independent schools.  He is a member of the Education Law Association and speaks frequently at conferences on education law issues for the Foundation and Aided Schools National Association (FASNA) and for Optimus Education.  He was the author of a textbook on education law “Running a School – Legal Duties and Responsibilities”  (Jordans, 2004) which ran to four editions and was designed for use by non-lawyers involved in schools.  He edits the Statutory Instruments section of Education Law Journal and is a frequent contributor to Education Law Update and other education law publications.  He was a governor of different state schools, ranging from a denominational voluntary aided secondary school to a community primary school, over a period of some 30 years and served terms as chair of governors at two of the schools.  He is a Trustee of a non-denominational voluntary aided school and has recently been involved in the promotion of a new voluntary-aided faith school.  He frequently trains governing bodies of maintained schools and academies on governance, admissions and exclusions.
