Tom Murdoch
Associate, Charity & Education
Tom is an Associate in the Charity & Education Team. He has acted for a wide variety of charities and social enterprises, ranging from international organisations to local community bodies. He assists clients with diverse legal issues including: charity registrations, structural re-organisations, amendment of royal charters, incorporation, governance reviews, trading issues and mergers.Recent work includes:
- first registration of Wikimedia UK (the organisation underlying Wikipedia) as a charity;
- acting for DEFRA in the establishment of the Canal & Riverside Trust, the successor organisation in England and Wales to the British Waterways Board; and
- participating in both the NCVO’s and the Charity Law Association’s reviews of the Charities Act 2006.
Tom has recently assisted household-name schools on public benefit issues, parent contracts, data protection and diverse other matters. He also has particular interest in and experience of the Charity Tribunal and charity proceedings before the High Court.
Outside work, Tom is trustee of Zambia Orphans of AIDS that supports the education and support of vulnerable children in Zambia.
