The DfE has stated that attendance will be mandatory again from the beginning of the Autumn Term 2020. Therefore, the usual rules on school attendance will apply and parents may therefore be penalised or sanctioned for their child not attending school from September 2020 onwards. The guidance is clear that the DfE is asking schools to work with families and local authorities to secure regular attendance.

The DfE’s reopening guidance sets out advice for schools regarding pupils who may not be able to or may not want to attend school for COVID-19 related reasons.
