The ransomware attack last Friday and copycat attacks subsequently have shown how far reaching and damaging their consequences can be - particularly to the reputation of those affected. Although you cannot always prevent such an attack (depending on its level of sophistication and the state of your organisation's IT system), you can take steps to mitigate its effect - such as backing up data, making sure your organisation's staff are trained as much as possible in spotting emails which can lead to cyber-attacks and installing the latest security patches.
Brian Miller, a leading cyber-law expert at Stone King who warned about the dangers of this type of crime back in a January e-Bulletin, is able to advise on what to do now if you find that you are a victim both in terms of claiming compensation or for defending any claim which may be brought against your organisation.
