Understanding Your Options

Mediation is suitable for couples who are both able to contribute fully to the process in discussion with each other. Our team of specially trained family mediators can facilitate such discussions and help you find your own solutions to your own problems.  You can then obtain the necessary legal advice from your own lawyer.

Collaboration allows you to work together in the interests of the family as a whole, but with the assistance and presence (at a cost) of collaborative lawyers in all the round table negotiations. A contract is entered into stating that neither party will go to court, other than to obtain a Consent Order outlining any agreement you may have reached, and neither party will threaten court proceedings.

Negotiation and litigation are the more standard approaches for family law solicitors dealing with the resolution of matrimonial disputes. This often involves trying to negotiate a settlement by threatening court proceedings or by issuing court proceedings and leaving the decision to the court, unless negotiations before the final court hearing bring about an agreed result.  A timetable is established which leads to finality.
