Will I Require a Medical Examination?
In order to prove that you have suffered an injury as a direct result of the accident it will be necessary for you to be examined by an independent medical expert. The nature of the expert will depend on the injuries that you have sustained. We have access to a wide range of local medical experts, ranging from Specialist General Practitioners to Orthopaedic Consultants and Consultant Psychiatrists. We will ensure that the appointment is as geographically convenient for you as possible. It may be necessary to engage the services of more than one type of medical expert, depending on the nature of injuries sustained.
The medical expert will require access to you full medical records – we will arrange this. They will study the medical records, and examine you before providing their professional opinion and prognosis. Once we have a settled medical opinion and prognosis, we can advise you as to the likely level of your claim, and we can also finalise your claim for financial losses. We can then commence settlement negotiations.
Under the Civil Procedure Rules all experts have a duty to be independent of the parties, and both sides will have the right to put questions to the expert following the production of the report.
