Trusts & Estates

The ‘trust’ is generally regarded as one of English law’s greatest contributions to legal thinking and practice.

Trusts occur in many different situations.

Many are created deliberately, for example where assets are given to certain individuals (trustees) to look after on behalf of certain individuals (beneficiaries).

Trusts can also arise by operation of law (for example the trusts which can arise for spouses and infant children under the intestacy rules).  And trusts can also be imposed by the courts (for example in family disputes).

We have the specialist expertise necessary to advise on the issues faced by those who want to create trusts, by those who act as trustees, and by those who are beneficiaries of trusts.

We pride ourselves in having a team of skilled solicitors with a human touch who work closely with trustees and beneficiaries and with trustees’ professional advisers, including accountants, brokers and financial advisers.

The team has a growing reputation for its work, and members of it regularly lecture on relevant issues, including for example the changes to the inheritance tax treatment of trusts introduced by the Finance Act 2006.
