Wills & Estate Planning

Making a will that’s right for you

Too many of us leave this world without making a will. This only adds to the upset and confusion experienced by those left behind. A properly drafted will and effective estate planning are essential if you want to ensure that wealth passes to the people you choose in the most efficient way.

At Stone King we can advise you on the best way to make provision for your family and loved ones, taking all your circumstances into account. Our specialist wills and estate solicitors can also act as your professional executors and trustees, either working alone or alongside others.

Making a will is a crucial part of the estate planning process. Without a will your estate will be divided up in accordance with current intestacy rules which may not reflect your wishes, especially if you are unmarried and have a partner or you wish to benefit a charity.

But estate planning is not just about making a will. Our professional and personal estate planning service involves an in-depth review of the assets in your estate and the provision you wish to make.  We can advise on the complex rules which apply for people with business assets either here or abroad, and for people domiciled* outside the UK.  * Domicile has a special meaning for UK tax purposes. The rules are complex but a person’s domicile is generally taken to mean where they have their permanent home.

Our expert team can offer an assessment of your inheritance tax liabilities and help you plan to reduce that burden. We can also look at pension and life policy planning and advise you on powers of attorney. As part of this process we will work closely with other professionals such as accountants and financial advisors.

A good starting point before we meet you to discuss your specific needs is to download and complete our wills questionnaire. This should give you an idea of the type of issues you will need to consider. Please also look at our guide to making a will which explains the process in more detail.
