Wills

A will is one of the most important documents an individual can complete.

We draft hundreds of wills every year and have extensive experience of drafting all types of wills.

The Service

Although it is possible to have a will drawn up by person of limited relevant experience and qualification who may sit at the end of a telephone and simply press what he thinks are the right buttons on a computer programme, we believe that drawing up a will requires a service which matches the importance of the document. We aim to offer clients who require it a more detailed and thorough expert analysis of their situation than the average non-solicitor will writing service can offer.

For a will to be drafted properly, it is critical that it is prepared by someone with the right experience and qualification who has the legal and person handling skills to gain an understanding of the client’s personal circumstances and affairs, and advise on the will in the context of that wider understanding and knowledge.

Discussions about wills can often lead to discussions about -

  • Inheritance tax saving
  • The destination of death benefits under life insurance and pension policies
  • The destination of death in service scheme benefits
  • Lifetime giving
  • Arranging and rearranging the ownership of assets
  • Powers of attorney

The Process

All clients who would like us to prepare wills will be invited to meet an experienced solicitor. The purpose of the meeting is to ensure that we understand thoroughly the circumstances and needs of the client in order that we can prepare the right will and so that any relevant associated issues can be identified and addressed.

We aim to fit our approach to the needs of the client. Although it is our general rule that we should meet the client, that meeting can be arranged at the most convenient stage of the process, whether at the point of taking instructions, the point of discussing the draft will, the point of execution, or at a review soon after execution.

We would always fix appointments with clients to suit clients. Many of our clients are bound by a 9-5 working day, and need us to be flexible in arranging appointments before or after normal working hours. And we frequently travel out to see clients at home, often outside normal working hours.

We aim to react quickly to what the client wants. If the client wants a will drawn up swiftly, then we will do so.

Will Reviews

We believe that for our clients, the job of preparing a will does not end when a completed will is stored away. It is critical that wills are kept up to date.

To assist clients in this, we have a programme of contacting the clients whose wills we hold. We aim to contact clients on a regular basis (every three years or so) to offer a review meeting to check that their wills are appropriate and up to date.

If you are not already a client of this firm and have made a will elsewhere, we will meet you to review the will on a no obligation basis.
