Part 1 - Academy trust governance and decision making for governance professionals and company secretaries
This two hour training session is designed to provide delegates with an introduction to:
• the governance structure of an academy trust;
• key governance documents for an academy trust;
• key roles within an academy trust – trustees, members, governance professional, company secretary and committees (including local governing bodies); and
• decision-making in academy trusts – member decision-making and resolutions, trustee decision-making and resolutions, delegation, and conflicts of interest.
If you are a governance professional, someone involved with clerking academy trust meetings, or undertaking company secretary duties and looking to develop, this training will help you understand how academy trusts are governed and the essentials for administering governance effectively.
The training is also an opportunity for delegates to ask questions and share experiences and knowledge.

Part 2 - Academy trust compliance and Companies House practice for governance professionals and company secretaries
This one and a half hour training session is designed to provide delegates with an understanding of academy trust administration requirements under company law including recent changes to company law under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. The session will cover:
• what academy trusts need to file at Companies House and when;
• company register requirements for academy trusts;
• persons with significant control;
• Companies House identity verification requirements for academy trusts and who can file on behalf of an academy trust;
• filing requirements at Companies House when appointing/removing members and trustees; and
• governance updates to Get Information About Schools and the academy trust website.
