Gender Reassignment - The Law, Key Issues and Practical Tips - London - 19.04.2018

We are frequently advising our schools on issues relating to pupils who wish to undergo or are in the process of undergoing a gender reassignment. Issues can also arise in the context of staff who are transitioning. There is currently no DfE guidance and schools are therefore often unaware of best practice. We are informed that the DfE will be publishing guidance in March.

In this session we will highlight key areas of the new guidance, we will cover your legal duties in relation to both pupils and staff under the Equality Act 2010 and discuss case studies based on the real scenarios. Some of these will include:

  • admissions
  • requests for change of name
  • use of facilities
  • sports and physical education
  • single sex schools
  • school uniform
  • staff issues

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss best practice ideas with peers working in other schools.
