On 23 April 2020 Julie Moktadir, immigration Solicitor, presented a well-received Webinar on the Top 5 issues on immigration compliance for charities. The top five issues were identified as

  • Right to work checks
  • Changes in Key Personnel
  • Charities changing their legal status
  • Visa applications
  • EU nationals

There were many questions throughout the webinar which were helpful to all attendees. Key points were around right to work checks for volunteers and others within Charitable organisations – whether they are necessary, legally or otherwise. Julie explained how many organisations overlook the changes in staff and the impact this may have upon the sponsor management compliance – particularly where the Authorising Officer or Level 1 user may leave.

Where charities have a change to their legal status, the impact upon any sponsorship licence must be considered. Organisations may wish to look at potential visa routes where workers or visitors are coming to the UK. Finally, Brexit will soon have a significant impact upon most organisations in the UK. The Home Office is now actively encouraging organisations to apply early for a sponsor licence.
