Stone King paddling to raise money to help disabled children

Stone King LLP took to the waters at the Bath Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 10 September to raise funds for the Wizzybug Loan Scheme. They are now doing a final fundraising push to raise as much as possible for the project, which provides disabled children under five in the UK with powered wheelchairs.

Thirteen intrepid paddlers from Stone King took part in 3 Dragon Boat races, under team name StoneyMcKingFace. They competed against 13 other teams. Each race the team furiously paddled their 30ft boat along a 150m course with a drummer in the front to beat time and a helm to steer.

The squad, made up of 4 men and 9 women, included one paddler who suffers from sea sickness. Another team member has seen the value of Wizzybugs first hand, because her nephew benefitted greatly from using one when he was under five. Whilst the paddlers did not make it past the heat stages, so far they raised more than £500 and hope to beat their £600 target to reach £1,000.

Alison Allen, Partner and Head of Private Client Sector at Stone King - and StoneyMcKingFace team captain, says: “Designability organised a great event and we certainly had to work for the funds we have raised so far. Every penny will go the charity’s Wizzybug Loan Scheme. This is such a great cause because Wizzybugs are loaned for free and have already given hundreds of disabled children under five the independence and freedom to play.”

The Wizzybug project is run by Designability, a national charity that designs life-changing assistive technologies. Please visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/zoe-hughes12 to make a donation.
