Alison, who is Stone King’s Chair and Head of Private Client Sector, discussed the firm’s pledge to the Race Fairness Commitment with Bath Radio presenter Julia Ferguson.
Alison also co-leads on diversity, equality and inclusion alongside Education Partner Lee Coley, and explained a number of initiatives are being implemented firm-wide.
This includes mentoring in schools and so inspiring the lawyers of the future.
“The Race Fairness Commitment is aimed at professional firms and around 50 national law firms have signed up to it which is a really encouraging,” said Alison.
“It is a commitment to equality of opportunity at all points of a person’s career.
“It is equality of opportunity in recruitment, promotion, retention and pay, and we commit that Black and all Ethnic Minority applicants will be as likely to be interviewed as their White counterparts.
“We commit that they are as likely to be offered a role as their White counterparts and, underlying all this, we will be tracking data and measuring what we are doing so that we can hold ourselves to account.
“It’s a really positive thing to do and it is also a statement that we are an anti-racist firm, which I’m very proud to say.”
