John Brownrigg, head of the Family and Mediation team at Stone King has joined forces with Sir Matthew Thorpe, an eminent and recently retired Court of Appeal Judge, Deborah Dinan-Hayward, head of Albion Chambers family team and Jon Toogood, senior partner at local law firm and part time District Judge, to form South Western Financial Arbitration for Families.

Arbitration is a way of resolving disputes without having to go to Court.  An Arbitrator can make decisions on not only financial disputes upon divorce, but also claims for child maintenance between unmarried parents and property disputes between cohabiting couples.

Unlike the court process, couples who choose to use arbitration as a way of resolving their issues not only are able to choose their Arbitrator, but they are also able to choose the procedure and when and where the arbitration will take place.  Arbitration is also cheaper than using the court process, although couples have to pay the Arbitrator, the costs are substantially lower than those of a full court case.  The award that will be given at the end of the process will be binding and the Arbitrator can also deal with cost issues.

John Brownrigg said “It is fantastic that we are able to offer clients a real choice in dealing with their financial disputes, the involvement with South Western Financial Arbitration for Families enables us to not only offer mediation, collaboration and constructive mediation but also arbitration to our clients.”

Rebecca Eels, solicitor and mediator said “John’s involvement with such highly qualified legal professionals firmly establishes Stone King’s team at the forefront of alternative dispute resolution in family law”
