Stone King Partner Lee Coley has been appointed to the post of Diocesan Registrar and Legal Advisor to the Bishop of Bristol.

Lee from Stone King’s Education Team, takes up the role on July 1, 2021; he is also Registrar and Legal Advisor to the Diocese of Leicester.

He was appointed to the Diocese of Bristol post by The Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol, and will take over from Roland Callaby.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be appointed to this role,” said Lee.

“I strongly believe the role of the Registrar is to help and enable those who are on the frontline of the Church of England’s mission, particularly as we begin to emerge from Covid. I’m looking forward to getting to know the Diocese and to the Registry team and Stone King as a whole supporting the Diocese in the years to come.”

Lee has been Registrar of the Diocese of Leicester since April 2019 and was previously the Registrar of the Diocese of St Albans and joint Registrar of the Diocese of Guildford. He specialises in a mixture of ecclesiastical, education and property matters, with a particular focus on the Church of England, although he has acted for other faith groups.

For just under 20 years Lee has provided advice on the day-to-day legal activities of a Church of England diocese as well as giving advice on more contentious issues to senior staff and others on such issues as clergy discipline, safeguarding and data protection.
