Lee Coley, a Partner in Stone King’s Education Team, has been appointed to the post of Registrar and Legal Advisor to the Bishop and Diocese of Leicester.

Lee took up the role at the beginning of April with his public licensing on April 8.

“I‘m absolutely delighted to be appointed,” said Lee.

“It’s something I feel very passionate about and strongly believe it’s an office that can show how the law can really help and enable those who are on the frontline of the Church of England’s mission.

“I’m succeeding someone who has been in post for many years and I very much want to respect that legacy whilst recognising that my team and I may well bring a new approach to things and that this will need to be done sensitively and wisely.”

Lee joined Stone King in 2015 and was previously the Registrar of the Diocese of St Albans and Joint Registrar of the Diocese of Guildford.

He specialises in a mixture of ecclesiastical, education and property matters, with a particular focus on the Church of England, although he has acted for other faith groups.

Lee is well used to dealing with the day-to-day legal activities of a Church of England diocese as well as giving advice on such issues as clergy discipline, safeguarding and data protection.

He has also acted for individual clergy and parochial church councils on property and other purely ecclesiastical matters.
