Stone King has been extensively quoted in the charity law firms survey compiled by Charity Finance magazine, including its listing as a top 3 charity law firm.

The feature article considers the legal landscape for charities over the coming months and what the key issues are, including the views of several UK charity law firms. The article explores the impact of the Charities Bill and other legislation coming in 2022, as well considering working shifts and other issues impacting charities this year.

Tim Rutherford, Partner and Head of the Charity and Social Enterprise sector group is quoted about the bill, highlighting that the government’s intention is that it will:

“significantly improve the efficiency of the sector, release more funds for use on charitable purposes rather than administration, and reduce unnecessary and overly bureaucratic regulation that not only increases the sector’s costs but also is a factor in discouraging people from volunteering to become trustees.”

He adds:

“This is possibly an over-optimistic ambition for a bill that mainly resolves and tidies up some technicalities, so on a day-to-day basis, the changes are likely to be less significant.”

Stone King Partner Hannah Kubie is also extensively quoted, commenting on charity mergers as well as observing that a number of charities are starting to move to full-time home working as part of cost-cutting and sustainability. She says:

“Where charities don’t rely on having premises to deliver services, we have seen many reduce or completely dispose of their office base and work entirely remotely. Whilst his has provided some financial breathing space it has given rise to some employment issues.”
