The rise in children disputes - how mediation can help

The rise in children disputes - how mediation can help

Date updated:

Recent figures released by the Ministry of Justice shows that there have been a stark increase in court cases concerning children.

These are hard figures to read. What this effectively means is that more and more parents are not managing to resolve together by co-parenting what is in the best interest of their children and are turning to the courts for help.

How can mediation help?

Mediation enables parents to make the decisions together by the two people who know their children better than anyone. At Stone King our family mediators know how important it is to ensure that children are at the heart of a couples’ discussions.  Our mediators are also in some circumstances able to meet with your children.

During the mediation sessions our mediators will encourage parents to make decisions together which will benefit their children both immediately and in the future. We can help parents to consider how their communication as parents can directly impact upon their children. Parents will decide together what issues they want to talk about and the mediator will assist them with coming to decisions together.

During the mediation process we will work with parents to help them decide upon strategies that enable them to work together not just now but also in the future.  Mediation is a solution- based approach that has at its heart the decision making by the couple.  The mediator assists by helping the couple look at things from the point of view of their children and encourages them to think about how they want their co-parenting and decision making to look like.  Mediation is a voluntary process and the mediators are impartial with the process being confidential.  All our mediators are trained lawyers and understand how important it is to reach decisions amicably and without conflict.
