Gavin joined the firm in 2014 after spending 9 years with Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP and 7 years with Theodore Goddard. His practice covers a broad range of IP rights with a particular focus on brand and design protection and exploitation and on helping clients deal with contentious issues and business risks related to IP. Gavin has a wealth of expertise in the areas of copyright, design rights, trade marks, passing off, database rights, domain names, image rights and the law of privacy/confidence, as well as the growing area of IP risks arising from the use of social media.

Gavin provides a full spectrum of advice, from strategic advice on the use, protection and exploitation of IP rights, through to their enforcement through Court proceedings. He also assists clients on the receiving end of infringement claims, defending and, where possible, settling actions. Part of Gavin’s practice is also advising on the commercial aspects of IP, such as licences and assignments of IP rights and the IP aspects of corporate transactions.

In addition to his client work, Gavin regularly contributes articles and comments on topical IP issues to leading legal and industry magazines.

He is the past President of the Intellectual Property Commission of the UIA (International Association of Lawyers), the Editor of the UIA newsletter and speaks regularly at UIA conferences on different aspects of IP law. Gavin is also a Legal Affiliate of Anti Copying In Design (ACID), the design industry association dedicated to raising awareness and the protection of intellectual property rights. He is also a fluent French speaker.
