James is a Senior Associate in the Employment Team, specialising in the education sector. James deals with a wide range of issues faced by clients and prides himself on his pragmatic approach, which focuses on client outcomes.

James joined Stone King in June 2024 and is an experienced employment lawyer. Previously, he worked for a large regional firm where he specialised in employment within education and other public sector bodies.

James has significant experience in advising a wide range of educational establishments across the full range of employment issues, including but not limited to: disciplinary matters; grievances; absence management; performance management; whistleblowing; safeguarding; discrimination issues; and industrial relations. James enjoys building relationships with his clients to understand their requirements, and tailors his support to ensure it fits within their organisational values.

Well versed in defending organisations in Employment Tribunal hearings, James has substantial experience in acting as an advocate in both multi-day Employment Tribunal hearings and contested preliminary hearings. James uses his experience as a Tribunal advocate to ensure he can protect his client's interests in his general advice, as well as ensuring clients are well prepared in any Tribunal proceedings that he supports.

James is particularly proficient at supporting clients through complex projects, whether that involves dealing with employment aspects of academy conversions, difficult TUPE matters or complex industrial relations issues.

James studied Law at the University of Sheffield before completing the Legal Practice Course at BPP in Manchester.

James is a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500 North West.
