Tom joined Stone King in October 2012 with 20 years’ experience as a legal advisor to schools already under his belt.
From 2003 to 2012 Tom was Head of Law for The Learning Trust, the not-for-profit company which took over all of Hackney’s education functions and led the transformation of education standards in the Borough. Before that Tom was the principal solicitor for education and employment for Wandsworth Council for 10 years.
Tom specialises in school governance and large education providers and specialises in operational issues. He also advises on a range of additional legal areas including admissions and exclusions, special educational needs and equality issues.
Tom has recently been appointed as a Fee-paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber. He is also a governor and chair in a Hackney school and is a member of the Governing Body of a primary federation in Suffolk, his adopted county, as well as a member of the Diocesan Board of Education for St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich.
Tom is an experienced speaker on education law and has chaired the annual LGG education conference in conjunction with 11 Kings Bench Walk chambers.
