With the arrival of the 3rd national lockdown, many parents will be wondering where that leaves them in terms of child arrangements. Can their children still see both parents?

What happens to child arrangements?

The government has been clear that children are able to move between two parents households to maintain a relationship with both their parents. With the arrival of the new lockdown, children may be feeling overwhelmed, confused and scared, it’s important therefore that they are encouraged to spend time with both their parents and to keep things as normal as possible for them.

How do I resolve concerns I have with the other parent?

It’s important to co-parent now so more than ever during this pandemic. Issues that may start off small will often fester and grow if not discussed. Acknowledge that both you and your children may be feeling worried and talk about what you can do to work together. If you find talking to each other hard, consider involving a family mediator,  family mediation can take place via video call and if your child is 10 or over they may welcome the opportunity to have time with the mediator themselves for their voice to be heard.

What about my court hearing?

Going to court can be stressful enough, let alone when dealing with it during a national lockdown. Court hearings are still proceeding and it’s likely that your hearing will take place via either video link or telephone. The court will give you instructions on how your hearing will be heard and if in any doubt it’s important that you seek legal advice.
