National law firm Stone King LLP has received ongoing recognition as a top tier firm by The Legal 500 directory. Six of the firm’s top people have also been acclaimed as ‘Leading Individuals’ with 30 more recommended in their fields of legal expertise.

In the 2017 issue of the directory, published this month, Stone King has been ranked as a top tier law firm for its work in the charity and education sectors. Referring to the firm’s charity work, the guide states: “With an integrated national practice, the firm acts for over 200 of the country’s largest charities and is praised as developing ‘excellent collaborative relationships with clients’”.

The growing practice has also been ranked as a top tier firm for its employment advice, particularly to the education and charity sectors, as well as commercial and high-net-worth clients. The guide refers to Stone King’s “’first class’ education practice” and its “in-depth knowledge” of transforming schools into academies and assisting “a large number of these academies, including multi-academy trusts and large academy chains, with ongoing legal HR advice”.

Stone King has been recommended across 11 other areas of legal practice including family law, personal tax, trusts, probate, corporate and commercial, crime and real estate.

The annual rankings include recommendations for 36 Stone King solicitors across the firm’s offices in Bath, Cambridge, London and Leeds. Six of these are named as Leading Individuals, including the firm’s Chairman Ann Phillips and the firm’s head of Charity and Social Enterprise Tim Rutherford, who is “noted for his ‘sharp, incisive mind and pertinent, focused and relevant contributions’”. Charity Partner Jonathan Burchfield is described as the “ultimate ‘sage’ of charity law and regulation”.

Further Leading Individuals include Education sector head Roger Inman, who is based in Stone King’s Cambridge office, and Graham Burns, London-based Partner in the Education team. A further 3 solicitors have been recognised as ‘Next generation lawyers’, namely Jean Boyle, Kathryn Williams and Alexandra Steffensen (née Whittaker).

Steven Greenwood, Managing Partner at Stone King, says: “We are delighted to once again be independently recognised as a top tier law firm. We take pride in all that we do. As a growing firm I am also very pleased for many of our people to be acknowledged for their outstanding professionalism and expertise. All our people are extremely dedicated and always put clients first. It is at the core of our firm’s culture.”
