Penny Walters
Principal HR Consultant

Penny joined Stone King’s Leeds office in October 2018 and works with a range of multi-academy trusts and further education institutions. She has over 25 years' experience in education HR, including more than 15 years advising schools through Sheffield City Council and Capita.

Penny has extensive experience in managing complex HR casework, including absence management, disciplinary and grievance matters, performance management, redundancy, TUPE, and employee relations. She is also highly experienced in safeguarding-related HR matters, advising on allegations against staff, safer recruitment, and regulatory referrals.

Penny is accredited in Internal Workplace Mediation through ACAS and has held HR roles within the commercial sector, as well as having experience within the charitable sector. She is a Chartered Member of the CIPD and holds a BSc (Hons) from the Open University

Education

Penny has 25 years’ experience working with schools, colleges and multi-academy trusts, having spent 15 years working for Sheffield City Council and Capita prior to joining Stone King.

Penny has an in-depth sector knowledge and expertise including national terms and conditions for teaching and support staff. She supported the TUPE for one of the earliest academy conversions in 2005 and has advised on many more since.


Charity

Penny has supported a number of our charity clients since 2018, particularly smaller charities who require assistance with the more complex issues such as employee relations, grievances, dismissal hearings, TUPE, redundancies and restructures.


Business

Penny spent over three years working in a very commercial environment just before joining Stone King, and is able to bring a commercial-focused approach in her advice to all our clients.

Penny has Chartered Membership of the CIPD and obtained a BSc Hons through the Open University whilst working full time. She is also an ACAS accredited Internal Workplace Mediator.

Penny is passionate about social mobility as well as developing links with the Leeds South and East Foodbank where she has co-ordinated volunteer days involving colleagues from the Leeds office.
