Melanie Carter, Partner and Head of Public and Regulatory at Stone King, recently became a trustee for the Public Law Project (PLP).

As a registered legal and social justice charity, PLP works to promote fairness in society through public law. PLP’s main activities revolve around research and policy work, training and support for lawyers and advisers, and strategic litigation, among other types of legal casework.

Melanie is a leader in her field in both the Chambers and Legal 500 independent legal directories and is the co-founder of the Public Law Solicitors Association (PULSA) – a group of public law solicitors established in 2015 to help members develop professionally, discuss relevant issues and respond to consultations. Melanie’s trusteeship at PLP is part of her personal commitment to public law and its important role in supporting the rule of law, sound decision making by public bodies and thereby the protection of marginalised or disadvantaged groups.

Having just completed her first year at Stone King, Melanie has already built a strong Public and Regulatory Team with a range of talent and a wealth of experience. In just 12 months, the team has advised on the biggest stories in local government finance, led strategic judicial reviews in the education sector, completed codes of conduct reviews for a number of professional representative bodies and advised on a range of Charity Commission inquiries.

At Stone King, we’re committed to supporting meaningful public interest work, and Melanie’s appointment reflects this commitment in action. She joins the ranks of Stone King’s people who volunteer their spare time to give back to their communities as charity trustees – find out more.
