Stone King is recognised as a leading provider of assistance to the state-funded and independent school sectors and our employment lawyers play a critical part in that provision. We have a dedicated team comprised of lawyers, HR consultants, and an in-house barrister, all with extensive experience and knowledge of the sector.

Having been involved in the completion of many conversions of UK academy schools, we continue to support a vast number of these schools (including a number of multi-academy trusts and large academy chains) with on-going legal advice and HR advice. The HR advice we offer includes but is not limited to bespoke Workplace Mediation and Strategic HR support.

Our education employment solicitors have an in depth expertise in all employment matters affecting schools. A few examples of the advice often provided to schools include (but not limited to):

  • teachers’ terms and conditions and in particular pay awards and appeals;
  • keeping children safe in education;
  • union activity;
  • issues relating to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme;
  • child protection;
  • safeguarding and capability processes;
  • grievances and whistleblowing complaints;
  • individual school and academy chain redundancies and restructures;
  • managing and managing out senior staff.

We also offer HR consultancy services. Our team of HR Consultants works closely with the education employment law solicitors to provide continuity of employment advice in relation to a wide range of issues. We offer a range of education employment retainers to enable you to take advice quickly and easily, at a fixed cost, please see more information about our Education Retainer.

One of the partners in the team qualified as a barrister prior to becoming a solicitor and has acted as advocate in hundreds of employment tribunal cases. Thus the team has the capacity to instruct “in-house counsel” thus keeping continuity of advice and representation in a particular case.

Our team has an outstanding reputation in relation to speaking at national and regional events, particularly on sector specific issues. The Team runs successful in-house workshops and annual employment/education day conferences.
