Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the general election will take place on 4 July.

The next six weeks will be a whirl of activity as political parties and candidates announce their manifesto pledges, key policies and take their campaigns to constituencies up and down the country.

Charities can carry on campaigning, but the Charity Commission’s Charities, Elections and Referendums guidance applies during the period between the announcement of an election and the election date, as does Charity Commission guidance CC9. It is also important to remember election law, because some of the permitted activities may have regulated electoral consequences.
