Surinder is an experienced employment law specialist with more than 20 years of experience, including representing employers in Employment Tribunal claims and undertaking all forms of non-contentious advice work and drafting work.

Surinder works across a wide range of sectors including education, charity and socially conscious businesses.

She is regularly instructed by employers facing complex multi-day Employment Tribunal for both representation and advice.

Professional experience

Surinder spent 14 years as a Senior Employment Solicitor for Birmingham City Council.

From there she joined Irwin Mitchell as Associate Solicitor and Head of Schools Legal Services, before joining Stone King’s Birmingham office in 2017.

Accomplishments

In 2019 Surinder set up a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Head Teachers and Senior Leaders Forum which she leads. She secured funding from the Department for Education to develop this leadership programme which addresses the shortfall of BAME representation in management.

She is a Teaching Regulation Agency panel member for the National College for Teaching and Leadership and regularly hears teacher misconduct applications / hearings.

Surinder leads on the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) Education Forum for both Birmingham and the East Midlands, and also set up the Education Forum in the South West.

She speaks three languages; English, Hindi and Punjabi.
