With increased discussion amongst our sixth form college clients and the sector generally, it is welcome news that the Government has officially reopened the option of Sixth Form Colleges applying to become academies.

Ciara Campfield, Partner in Stone King’s Education Team, says: “Sixth Form Colleges perform an important role in our education system and irrespective of legal status will always form a distinctive part of our country’s family of colleges. Academisation won’t be right for everyone, but reopening the opportunity for Sixth Form Colleges to academise puts the power to determine the right legal structure for your college back where it should be: in your hands.”
