Family lawyers at Stone King welcome the Government’s £1.3 million boost to its family mediation scheme to help separating parents avoid stressful legal disputes regarding their children

Family mediation vouchers, offered by Stone King, were launched in March 2021 to help families access mediation in order to discuss arrangements for their children as opposed to resorting to the family courts. Since the scheme began, 4,400 vouchers have been used nationally, with 77 per cent of cases reaching whole or partial agreements outside of a courtroom. The voucher scheme is run by the Family Mediation Council (FMC) and vouchers are worth £500 towards the cost of mediation.

The announcement coincides with Family Mediation Week (17 to 22 January), during which Stone King is offering free information sessions for anyone considering mediation.

Stone King Partner Rebecca Eels, who is a trained mediator, says:

“Mediation can really help reduce conflict for divorcing or separating couples at an extremely stressful time so they can focus on the best outcomes for themselves and their children. This is why we very much support this voucher scheme, which may make more families consider this option.

“The process can also help to minimise costs and delays, especially at this time when family courts have a backlog owing to the pandemic. We would encourage anyone considering separation or divorce to get in touch to find out more about mediation and also the voucher scheme.”

Stone King’s Family & Mediation Team, which is based at Upper Borough Court in Bath city centre, has three highly skilled and experienced mediators. All this week, the team is offering free half-hour information slots as part of Family Mediation Week.

To book a free slot, please contact Sam Pinker at SamPinker@stoneking.co.uk or call 01225 485735.
