Jess Ventham, a Solicitor in Stone King’s Construction Team, specialises in ecology and wildlife management at the firm, and has now successfully completed a specialist course in Bat Legislation and Bats in Developments. Jess’s training covered current legislation and how to address ecological concerns in the construction industry.

Jess said, “I am very interested in nature and how construction can mitigate, handle, and support ecology-related issues. Bats are an issue with construction because we so often find them in our roof space, and it is important to protect them and their habitat.”

This qualification enables her to contribute to the protection of bats while ensuring that construction projects can proceed as planned, supporting harmony between wildlife and development.

As the firm often serves as an Employers Agent overseeing projects from their inception, Jess's qualifications will be instrumental in assessing the feasibility of construction and considering necessary changes or mitigation strategies for wildlife.

The course has equipped her with a deep understanding of the law surrounding bats and how to spot them, and the knowledge to mitigate issues surrounding their presence. With this qualification, she is well-prepared to navigate construction projects while also safeguarding the interests of these remarkable creatures.
